Admissions Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Admissions Counselor is a member of an Admissions team of five
and reports to the Director of Admissions. Charged with recruitment
for degree program enrollment, the Counselor is responsible for
participating in the execution of recruitment activities, meeting
with prospective students, reviewing artwork portfolios, and
timely processing of applications. This position will be heavily
involved in recruitment activities, such as school presentations,
special events, college fairs and other events, and targeted
mailings. Some weekend and evening work required. Regional and
national travel required.
Visits consist of making presentations about the Corcoran, conducting
hands-on workshops with students, meeting with art teachers, reviewing
student portfolios, connecting with the guidance offices, and attending
targeted college fairs. Special event participation, high school
tours of the College, and portfolio reviews are all on-site activities
in which the counselor would also participate.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand and be able to explain CCAD portfolio requirements,
studio philosophy, conceptual ideas, and program offerings to
student, parent, and faculty audiences
- Conduct follow up and proactive communication with inquiries,
applicants and teachers
- Utilize the database to track and process assigned inquiry
and applicant pool
- Effectively organize and schedule a multi-month travel calendar.
Send out requests for visits; contact high school teachers and
career offices to schedule visits; respond to requests and schedule
presentations
- Extensive travel locally, regionally, and nationally to make
Power Point presentations and portfolio reviews to high school
and community college art classes
- Attend National Portfolio Days; high school and community college
fairs
- Review student portfolios on- and off-site
- Write follow-up notes and letters to teachers and guidance
departments
- Conduct follow-up outreach to inquiry pool (mail, phone, electronic)
- Compile high school teacher packets to present during visits
- Keep detailed logbook of visits, mileage, hours, and expenses;
submit weekly visit reports
- Identify new schools for contact
- Participate in special events, including Open Houses and National
Portfolio Day at the Corcoran
- Give high school groups and individuals tours of the College
- Some weekend and evening work required for college fairs and
special events

QUALIFICATIONS:
- BFA preferred, BA in art-related field required
- Prior experience in recruitment, education, or marketing, including
making presentations ideal

Director of Individual Giving and
Membership
Development Department
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Individual Giving and Membership is a senior level
position in the Development Office. The Director serves as a
member of the Development senior management team, which oversees
general staff operations and work collectively to implement the
directives of the Vice President for Development. He/she has
management oversight of the Corcoran’s individual giving program,
which includes the Annual Fund and Membership programs. He/she
develops and executes a comprehensive multi-year plan to achieve
the Corcoran’s objectives of Member growth and funding support
across broad levels. He/she is responsible for the development
of these programs, including maintaining a benefits package that
retains the Corcoran’s membership base and keeps the constituency
loyal and involved in the institution’s mission. He/she adjusts
strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions;
makes policy recommendations and sets a vision for service that
continually improves the standard for the membership experience
and is communicated to her team and all volunteers. He/she devises
an annual strategy for ongoing solicitations of existing and
prospective donors and Members and integrates membership priorities
into Museum- and College-wide initiatives. He/she sets and maintains
annual budgets for both programs; and, sets and achieves annual
goals for revenue and philanthropic relationship building.
The Director has management responsibility of the Annual Giving
Officer, Membership Associate and Membership Programs Officer.
The Director benchmarks peer institutions’ efforts to identify
best practices that may be employed by the Corcoran. He/she attends
monthly peer roundtable meetings of museum colleagues and maintains
relationships with peers nationwide to keep abreast of national
trends and ideas for program development.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As related to the development, implementation, and management of
the individual program in support of the Museum and College of
Art + Design, the Director of Individual Giving and Membership:
- Works closely with the Manager of Prospect Research to screen
and rate prospects; participating in weekly Prospect Review meetings;
and, attending and staffing events;
- Works closely with he Vice President of Development, Major
Gift Officers and other key Museum and College staff to coordinate
individual giving strategies and initiatives (unrestricted and
restricted giving) and for the cultivation and solicitation of
a portfolio of donors and prospects;
- Selects and monitors the performance of consultants and vendors,
as well as manages oversight for copy, design and production
of all program fundraising materials (to include brochures, invitations,
email correspondence, communications series, website presence,
etc.);
- Oversees planning and implementation of donor and Member events
and programs and the department calendar for purposes of cultivation
and stewardship and oversees donor and Member communications,
including stewardship, email communications, and other publications;
- Oversees annual direct mail and production schedules and benefit
delivery schedules, as well as in-house telethon efforts and
onsite sales;
- Forms and staffs volunteer committees to assist with solicitation
of Annual Fund prospects, Trustees, Overseers and Women’s Committee
and works with colleagues and volunteer leadership on building
the prospect pool from various internal and external sources;
and, directly cultivates and solicits donors and Members, particularly
major donors to the Annual Fund and Membership programs;
- Prepares written and oral reports (program update and progress
toward goals, revenue and expense reporting, program plans and
recommendations) on a regular basis for the Vice President of
Development, President and Director, Chairman of the Board of
Trustees, Chairman of the Women’s Committee, Docent Chair, and
other key individuals;
- Works closely with the Director of Advancement Systems to maintain
clear policies and procedures for operations and fulfillment.
They also work in tandem to interpret data to determine success
of these programs and note trends throughout the year, including
return on investment (ROI), cost per dollar raised and market
penetration;
- Collaborates with other departments to coordinate programming,
communications, standards of service, and promote the overall
Corcoran “brand” to current and prospective Members;
- Works closely with the Director of Corporate and Foundation
Relations to provide program and event opportunities and information
for corporate sponsorship solicitations and assist with these
solicitations and benefit fulfillment as needed. He/she also
provides strategy ideas for how membership opportunities can
be developed into corporate sponsorships;
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of experience in a development
office.
- Sound knowledge of individual major gift fundraising, membership
service program, customer-relations methods, direct mail programs
and telemarketing.
- Knowledge of marketing principles and emerging e-commerce fundraising
techniques.
- Demonstrated experience heading a membership or development
program and in direct solicitations to individuals at $10,000
and above.
- Demonstrable track record of achieving revenue goals.
- Analytical skills in order to study and make recommendations
about the program. Knowledge of management and personnel practices.
- Skill in budget preparation and control.
- Familiarity with computer software for word processing and
database management.

Teaching Assistant for Summer Youth
Programs
Continuing Education Department
POSITION SUMMARY:
These are full-time, temporary positions for Summer Pre-College
and Camp Creativity 2008. Camp sessions for ages 5–13 cover a
wide variety of fields including drawing, painting, sculpture,
cartooning, digital art, and photography and incorporate content
from art history, global studies, science, and math. Pre-College
classes for high school students focus on portfolio development
in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and digital art.
Locations: Corcoran’s Downtown and Georgetown campuses.

Camp Creativity Office Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a full-time, temporary position for Camp Creativity 2008.
The Office Assistant is an integral member of the Camp Creativity
staff, reporting directly to the Georgetown Campus administrator,
working with teaching assistants and faculty, and interacting
with campers and parents. Location: Corcoran’s Georgetown campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize camper medical information forms
- Update and provide daily sign-in sheets for the security desk

environment in the supply room throughout the duration of camp

Head of Interpretation
Public Education Department
POSITION SUMMARY:
Working closely with the Public Programs, Youth and Family, development
and curatorial staff, and the staff and faculty of the College,
the Head of Interpretation is responsible for the development
of the institution’s educational agenda. He/she oversees the
Museum Education/Interpretation department and leads all written
and educational interpretation initiatives related to the Corcoran’s
permanent and special exhibitions programs. The Head of Interpretation
is responsible for generating and overseeing a successful docent
and staff training and school tour program, a creative and innovative
exploration gallery program, a cohesive volunteer and intern
program, plus provides expertise on all institutional material
written for visitors (including brochures, wall and label texts,
etc.).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees Direction of the Gallery Tour Program:
Manages and evaluates a high caliber annual tour program
Designs school tour guidelines, making sure they are uniform
and consistent with area school curriculum requirements -Ensures
that all school tour programs adhere to the core educational
mission of the Corcoran
Oversees the development of school and group learning experiences
in the Gallery, including workshop programs, and all associated
written materials -Develops the pre- and post-visit materials
for teachers
Regularly assesses the effectiveness of all group and school
tour programs and implements changes when necessary -Regularly
reaches out to local educators through workshops and previews
to promote the Corcoran as a destination for area schools
Oversees the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation
of docents
Seeks innovative ways to further link together the college and
museum resources to benefit the Education program at the Corcoran
- Works with curators, students, faculty, and other educators
to create a regular program of unique Exploration Gallery installation.
Works closely with the curatorial staff to generate the concept,
theme, and purpose of each gallery
Initiates collaboration with staff and faculty in the college
to create museum work experiences for Corcoran students; oversees
Corcoran students assigned to projects
Collaborates with development staff to seek funding for initiatives
- Writes and/or edits in-gallery interpretive materials for the
institution (gallery guides, wall text, audio scripts, etc.)
- Oversees the institution’s volunteer and intern program
Helps to create institutional training, standards, and practices
for Corcoran volunteers and interns
Ensures that the volunteer and intern program serves the Corcoran
in the most efficient and beneficial manner possible
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MA in Museum Education, MAT, or equivalent experience. Must
have a strong background in art history
- Minimum of five years museum experience in a supervisory role

Assistant Curator of Contemporary
Art
Curatorial Department
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art assists in the development
and presentation of special exhibitions, related written materials
and catalogues, and ancillary programs in the Contemporary Art
department. The Corcoran defines contemporary art as art created
internationally since 1980, though the Contemporary Art department
also has primary responsibility for art made since 1945. Under
the direction of the Associate Curator, the Assistant Curator
is responsible for overseeing the Corcoran’s permanent collection
of post-1945 painting, sculpture, and installation art. This
includes organizing exhibitions drawn from museum holdings, acquisitions
of new work, and loans of collection artworks. The Assistant
Curator works to raise funds and cultivate interest and donor
groups in support of exhibitions, programs, and collection acquisitions
and maintenance. The Assistant Curator, guided by Curatorial
department priorities, works with faculty and students of the
Corcoran College of Art + Design in support of college curricula.
The Assistant Curator also helps develop Gallery-College interactions
leading to the realization of museum projects. The Assistant
Curator helps to establish relationships with the Washington
area art community by doing studio visits with local artists,
attending art openings, and by maintaining dealer/curator contact.
The Assistant Curator is also expected to keep aware of the national
and international art scene via research and travel, when financially
possible.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of an MA in Art History or Museum Studies, with expertise
in contemporary and 20th-century art; or the equivalent professional
experience.
- Proven knowledge of professional museum practices, including
realization of loan and collection exhibitions, history of scholarship
and publications related to the contemporary art field, professional
research, patronage, project fundraising, collection development
and planning, and museum cataloguing.
- At least three years professional museum experience.
- Good oral, writing, and organizational skills.
- Experience teaching art history with an emphasis on contemporary
art.

Assistant Registrar 1

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Registrar coordinates the enrollment management services
for the Continuing Education program, to include registration,
scheduling, transcript requests, enrollment verifications, certificate
audits, grade processing, and academic record keeping. This position
also manages the enrollment management of the Corcoran undergraduate
and graduate degree programs, supervises student workers, enforces
FERPA compliance requirements, and produces official enrollment

College Communications Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
The College Communications Coordinator will support the Managers
of Public Relations, Marketing, and Communications on all College
initiatives, including: admissions; undergraduate and graduate
degree programs; Gallery 31 (a gallery dedicated to the display
of student work); Continuing Education for adults, youth, and
children; and community outreach programs.
The Corcoran College of Art + Design is planning significant growth
over the next three to five years, including the addition of a
new College campus at The Randall School in Southwest D.C.
The College Communications Coordinator reports on a project basis
to the Managers of Public Relations, Marketing, and Communications,
and on a departmental level to the Director of Communications.
He or she is responsible for providing the Communications team
with up-to-date information on all College communications initiatives
and supporting them in all projects related to meeting the goals
of the College.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As related to the development and implementation of the Corcoran
College of Art + Design marketing and communications plan, and
within the context of the Corcoran’s overall institutional plan,
the College Communications Coordinator:

Vice President of Development
Development Department
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working closely with
the Director and President, the Vice President of Development
will provide leadership, direction, and coordination for a comprehensive
fundraising program. The VP will be expected to design, implement,
and manage an integrated development plan with a primary focus
on a significant major donor initiative. Coordinating with Corcoran
leadership, s/he will strategically plan and manage the development
operation to meet short- and long-term fundraising goals; maintain
relationships with sponsors, donors, volunteers and the Board
of Directors; and work hands-on to cultivate and solicit donations,
building a portfolio of individual donors. The Vice President
will manage a team of eight—Director of Individual Giving, Major
Gifts Officers, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations,
Membership Manager, Research Manager, and other staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish and implement an annual development plan as well
as long-term development goals, strategies, and activities for
delivering on the Corcoran Strategic Plan.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, and expand upon relationships
with major individual donors, foundations, and corporations.
- Provide leadership, direction, and management for the Development
team and the organization, creating a professional environment
of respect, motivation, and productivity.
- Identify, track, and deliver on development benchmarks.
- Produce development reports as necessary to track progress
against goals and benchmarks to support the case for donor engagement
and investment.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and expand the number of major
and planned giving prospects and donors.
- Work collaboratively on fundraising with Gallery and College
leadership to define priorities and articulate messages to donors.
- Oversee and assess cultivation events and opportunities to
deepen relationships and engage the Corcoran’s donor base.
- Create relevant development tools including materials, correspondence,
and related copy for use in print and on-line.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Marketing and Communications
to create a communications strategy that supports overall development
goals designed to advance programs and priorities of the institution.
- With the Corcoran’s President and Director and the Chief Operating
Officer, serve as a key liaison with the Corcoran Board.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred and a minimum
of eight to ten years’ development experience.
- Proven leadership abilities to effectively fundraise for a
complex institution with an annual fundraising budget in excess
of $5 million.
- Demonstrated effectiveness and success in corporate and individual
major gifts fundraising.
- A skilled manager who is able to lead, coach, train, and mentor

Graduate Admission Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Graduate Admissions Counselor is a member of an admissions
team of six and reports to the Director of Admission. Under the
supervision of the director, the counselor will research, analyze,
plan, and implement the full spectrum of graduate admission operations
and administrative requirements within the department, working
in consultation with graduate program heads. Charged with recruitment
and applicant processing for graduate (and some undergraduate)
enrollment, the Counselor is primarily responsible for shaping
and participating in the execution of degree program recruitment
activities, meeting with prospective students, corresponding
with faculty, reviewing art work portfolios, and timely processing
of applications. Recruitment activities include, but are not

- Chairing the Graduate Team Councilwhose members include
program directors and other college staffto establish recruitment
priorities, mutual expectations and individual recruitment plans
and goals
- Implementing and managing prospect activities including direct
mail, email, outreach activities, open houses and school presentations
- Developing and maintaining relationships with faculty, department
heads, and deans as well as transfer personnel at colleges and
universities
- Collaborating with the Director of Marketing on advertising,
marketing and recruitment publications
- Coordinating web presence and functionality for graduate audience
- Collecting, analyzing, and presenting statistical information
regarding marketing, recruitment and admission.
- Planning and participating in special events such as open houses,
National Portfolio Day, new student welcomes, orientation, and
faculty events. Conducting portfolio reviews when needed
- Conducting tours of the College and its facilities when called
upon
- Evaluating and processing transfer and international student
documentation, including conducting transfer credit evaluations
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree Preferred, Minimum of bachelor’s degree required
- Excellent communication, networking, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop strong relationships with a variety of constituencies
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Excellent organizational and follow-through skills
- Ability to travel extensively independently, including evenings
and weekends
Desired Qualifications:
- Two years of admissions, higher education, or marketing experience
- Experience in advising/counseling of students
- Experience with computer applications; database experience
a plus

Junior Graphic Designer
Graphic Design Department
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Junior Graphic Designer will provide production and administrative
office support to the Head of Design. He/she will assist in the
development of collateral for permanent and traveling exhibitions,
and various College activity and recruitment material. Projects
range from newspaper advertising, brochures, exhibition graphics,
and internal and external signage to exhibition catalogs. This
position reports to the Head of Design for design assignments
and scheduling and will develop collateral, working with the
Head of Design and the internal client to achieve the best results.
The design process will be a collaborative effort between these
parties, with final approval coming from the Head of Design and/or
client.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in layout of print pieces
- Assists in development of exhibition-related collateral
- Maintains relationships with current print vendors
- Provides production and administrative office support to the
Head of Design
- Reports to the Head of Design for design assignments and scheduling
- Develops collateral, working with the Head of Design and the
internal client to achieve the best results
- Accepts direction and feedback from others including senior
designers, design interns, and other staff
- Develops html e-mails and newsletters
- Ensures the completion of design projects in a timely manner
- Manages supplies (paper, toner, and office supplies, etc.)
- Ability to learn new skills and retain this knowledge for future
projects
- Schedules self, completes work on time, accomplishes tasks
to the fullest capacity; monitors work as appropriate
- Maintains composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure;
keeps an open mind; and adapts to changing conditions
- Produces electronic files for printing, and work with printers
to insure proper printing results
- Designs responsibilities will increase with experience and
performance
- Takes initiative in general office support where many jobs
are in progress
- Makes constructive use of criticism and ideas of others; looks
to problem solve
- Prepares and effectively expresses verbal and written presentations
- Develops professional and design skills through periodic seminars
and regular office counseling from the Head of Design
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1–2+ years of work experience in graphic design
- Degree from a four-year college or university with specialization
in graphic design or visual communication
- Refined typographic skills with a strong representative portfolio
of professional and student work
- Careful attention to detail: typography in particular
- Able to handle multiple projects at once
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Collaborative creative professional with a dedication to excellence
and a passion for exhibitions and student life
- An ability to operate independently yet contribute in a collaborative
environment
- The ability to handle several concurrent projects and work
efficiently under pressure with ability to organize and prioritize
work and meet deadlines
- A solid working knowledge of the latest versions of Adobe Creative
Suite applications, particularly with a high level of knowledge
of Adobe InDesign, in a Mac environment
- Self-motivated, organized, reliable, and accountable Compassion
and respect for the intense nature of the design process
