Washington, DC – Showcasing the work of the nation’s most distinguished
group of photojournalists – the White House News Photographers’ Association
(WHNPA) – The Eyes of History 2005 features compelling images
documenting the year’s top news stories. Photographs in the exhibition
capture a broad spectrum of human emotion and show a variety of poignant moments.
In its fifth
year at the Corcoran, the exhibition is on view at the Museum from May 21 through
June 20, 2005.
“The Eyes of History 2005 is a wonderful retrospective of the past year
with images that will be remembered for years to come,” notes Susan Walsh,
President of WHNPA. “Our ongoing partnership with the Corcoran provides
us with a wonderful opportunity to showcase the award-winning work of our members
at a major museum and to participate in a unique educational program.”
The Corcoran College of Art + Design and the White House News Photographers’ Association
entered into a collaborative partnership in February 2001. Drawing on WHNPA
photojournalists serve as faculty, the College launched a four-year BFA degree
program in Photojournalism. The program is unique in that it is a course of
study in photojournalism housed in a college of art. The BFA program provides
students with unprecedented access to the many powerful newsmaking venues in
the nation’s capital, offering them a rare opportunity to learn how to
use their skills creatively and expressively in one of the most competitive
professional environments in the world. This year marks the graduation of the
second class of Corcoran photojournalists.
“We are excited to continue our partnership with the WHNPA,” says
Christina DePaul, Dean of the Corcoran College of Art + Design. “It is
an outstanding opportunity for us annually to expose our students to the best
in photojournalism today.”
