Washington, DC – With the 2005 BFA Senior Thesis Exhibitions,
graduating seniors at the Corcoran College of Art + Design make the transition
from students to professional artists as they formally exhibit their final
projects at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Featuring work by the 81 members of
the class of 2005, the exhibitions will be on view from February 16 through
May 16, 2005.
The 2005 BFA Senior Thesis Exhibitions consist of a series of week-long,
rotating exhibitions featuring photojournalism, photography, graphic design,
digital media design and fine art produced by members of the graduating class
and grouped by major. Seniors in the College’s Bachelor of Fine Arts
program are responsible for all aspects of their thesis exhibitions, from exhibition
design to installation – an experience vital to the students’ professional
and artistic development.
“This year’s senior class joins a distinguished group of graduates
from the Corcoran College of Art + Design who have risen to the challenge of
conceiving not only a body of work, but learning the discipline of exhibition
design and related intricacies of planning, installing and lighting,” says
Corcoran College of Art + Design’s Dean Christina DePaul. “Each
group exhibition is a culmination of four years of intensive study and exploration,
yet these exhibitions represent only the first steps in careers filled with
great promise and achievement.”
The individual shows then culminate in mid-May in the 2005 All Senior
Exhibition, a dynamic exhibition representing all disciplines and featuring
work by every student in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program.
The work is on view in the Hemicycle, the exhibition center for the Corcoran
College of Art + Design.

ABOUT THE HEMICYCLE
The Hemicycle is the Exhibition Center of the Corcoran College of Art + Design.
Unlike other galleries in the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Hemicycle exhibitions
and related programming are organized by the College to reflect and diversify
its curricular goals. The Hemicycle serves as a forum where exhibition and
education meet, featuring year-round exhibitions of work by Corcoran students,
faculty and alumni, as well as work by contemporary artists who participate
in educational programming at the College such as teaching master classes
or presenting lectures to students. By presenting work from artists and designers
from the Washington region and beyond, Hemicycle exhibitions seek to bring
ideas to the Corcoran community, encourage educational interaction between
the exhibition artists and the students and expand the public’s awareness
of contemporary art and design.
