Armour’s lecture focuses on the role of outdoor furniture and will take place
on July 9, 2006 at the DWR Studio in Adams Morgan
WASHINGTON, DC – In support of the partnership between Design Within Reach (DWR) and the Corcoran College of Art + Design (CCA+D), Catherine Armour, Chair of the Design department at CCA+D, will present a free lecture on outdoor furniture design at the Design Within Reach studio in Adams Morgan on July 9, 2006 at 11 am. Daniel Fogelson, VP of Sales and Marketing of EMECO, will also be speaking.
Armour’s “In Door Out” lecture will focus primarily on the development and role of outdoor furniture in modern society and she will incorporate historical and modern examples in her discussion. She will also explore the relationship between the outdoor furnished environments and the landscapes they inhabit. To provide visual examples, the lecture will take place outside on the terrace of the DWR studio. After the lecture, refreshments will be served.
“There is a very engaged and active design community in Washington whose voice is less heard because of the political conversation here,” said Catherine Armour, Chair of Design, CCA+D. “But there is a large and growing community here that very much cares about architecture and design.”
Armour has extensive knowledge and experience in the field of design. She
possesses degrees from Princeton University and Middlebury College, has worked
as director of Interiors Studio at Michael Graves, Architect and leads the
Design and Interior Design departments at the Corcoran College of Art + Design,
including three degree programs and numerous Continuing Education certificate
programs and classes. Past professional clients have included: The World Bank,
Disney, Las Vegas Clark County Public Library, Vassar College and The National
Cathedral School. Additionally, Armour curated and designed the exhibition,
The Furniture of Frank Gehry, which was on view at the Corcoran Gallery
of Art in 2004.
Design Within Reach provides local communities access to fashionable furniture that normally can only be found in designer showrooms. As part of the partnership between DWR and the Corcoran College of Art + Design, DWR coordinated a generous donation of furniture and accessories that are currently in the Corcoran College of Art +Design library.
The free lecture is open to the public and will be held at the DWR Studio in Adams Morgan, located at 1838 Columbia Rd. NW, Washington, DC. To RSVP for the lecture, call 202-265-5640 or e-mail adamsmorgan@dwr.com.
