CHERRY BLOSSOM DRAWING FOR KIDS
Corcoran College of Art + Design to offer Saturday workshops at
Jefferson Memorial during 2008 Cherry Blossom Festival

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Aspiring artists will capture the flowering of Washington’s cherry trees at three Drawing from Cherry Blossoms workshops led by Corcoran College of Art + Design faculty members. An official National Cherry Blossom Festival participant, the Corcoran’s Saturday afternoon workshops will take place on March 29, April 5 and April 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, East Potomac Park.

Designed for ages 8–16, Drawing from Cherry Blossoms will introduce students to botanical art. Using pencils, ink, charcoal, and oil pastels, students will improve their drawing skills as they create studies and finished drawings of the Yoshino cherry trees and their blossoms.

“We have added a third workshop this year, so we will be out at the Jefferson Memorial every weekend during the Festival,” said Richard Selden, Director of Continuing Education. Under its Continuing Education banner, the Corcoran offers a variety of studio art classes for all ages, including the popular Camp Creativity summer sessions at its Georgetown Campus.

The cost of each Cherry Blossom workshop is $35 per child and pre-registration is required. To register, please click here or call (202) 639-1770.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual two-week, citywide event celebrating spring. The 2008 Festival is March 29 – April 13, and will feature daily cultural performances, sporting events, arts & crafts, demonstrations and other special events. The National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the 96th anniversary of the gift of the cherry blossom trees and the enduring friendship between the citizens of the United States and Japan.
